Vintage silverware is great to make new crafts. You can find tons of inexpensive silverware at flea markets, online, and even at garage sales. To make this retro dessert stand you will need to bend your silverware, so do not Grandmas silver or you may be sorry!

This retro dessert stand would also make a great vintage looking candle platter for a centerpiece on your dinner table or coffee table! So, when you are dieting, change out that cake for some candles and you can use this vintage silverware dessert stand year round!

To Make a Retro Dessert Stand Using Vintage Silverware You Will Need:

4 piece of vintage silverware
1 plate charger
Paint (optional)
Paint brush (optional)
Power drill
Metal cutting drill bit
Small screws

Now, the first thing you need to do is go ahead and paint your plate charger. Any color you want it fine. If you don’t need to, then do not paint it.

While the plate charger is drying you can work on the legs of the vintage dessert stand. I like to use forks for the silverware in this vintage craft project, but you might find that old cake spatulas or even butter knives would work well also.

You want to bend the fork right at the base of the prongs. Bend it up like you are trying to meet the front of the prongs to the front of the handle of the silverware.

You may find gently heating the silverware will help in the bending process. Be sure to wear protective gloves if you do this. If you are using real silverware, it will bend easily without the heat. If you are using cheap silverware, it will bend easily as well!

Now, bend the prongs at a 90dgree angle.

Next, you want to need the middle of the handle at a 90 degree angle. Bend the back of the handle towards the rest of the back. You can do this halfway up the handle to even 2/3 of the way up the handle. If you are using a cake spatula, then you made need to do it 2/3s of the way up, since the handle may not be too long.

Take your pre drill, with a drill but that can drill through metal, and make a hole in the end of the handle of the silverware. Try to center it and do not drill too close to the end. About 1/4 inch in from the end is a great place for this hole.

Now, turn the plate charge face down on a flat stable surface. Lay out your four “legs” made for vintage silverware. Mark the holes on the wood plate charge and pre drill a little. Do NOT drill through the plate charger.

Now, simply screw the vintage silverware legs into place!
